An ASO ankle brace is a special kind of ankle brace called an Ankle Stabilizing Orthosis. Orthosis is just another way to say Orthotic, which refers to a branch of medical science that deals with the support of weak or ineffective joints/muscles. Put simply, an ASO ankle brace is designed to support the ankle joint in a way in which other ankle braces won't.
Not at first. An ASO brace takes getting used to. You do have to wear a sock underneath. But I no longer find it uncomfortable and hardly know it's there.
It does work and allows you to continue a sport that you might have had to quit if it did not exist. Physical Therapists recommend the ASO brace for all kinds of sports including running and tennis and it works by preventing your ankle from turning over.
I use it without the stays. But the one with the stays keeps the ankle even more stable if you happen to need maximum ankle support. Stays for an ASO ankle brace make putting on a shoe more difficult but they are removable.

This is not an example of great filming or editing by any stretch. But I think you get the idea of how to put on that ASO brace. It's not rocket science but when you pull in out of the package for the first time, there is a feeling of "how does this go on?"
See our product reviews page for more sports medicine recommendations from athletes, coaches, orthopedic surgeons, certified instructors and sports enthusiasts. It is an elite list at this point but one that is well researched.

The ASO ankle brace works for running, football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, racquetball, rugby, soccer, walking the dog and even ping pong.
For stabilizing the ankle, this brace is recommended by physical therapists over ankle tape, particularly if the ankle has been previously injured.
