The Medi Levamed Ankle and Achilles Tendon Support with silicone insert is ideal for mild instability of the ankle, ankle sprains, joint problems, arthritis, swelling and chronic post-operative and post-traumatic irritation. The compressive knit and silicone cushions promote circulation for more rapid re-absorption of hematomas and edema.
Other braces are cheaper but you do get what you pay for
The advantage of this brace over cheaper versions is the 3-way knitting technique that is more ergonomically and anatomically designed to allow for movement with functional support without the wearer feeling constricted. This brace can also be worn to prevent injury or re-injury however it is not intended or designed prevent rollover. See the last paragraph for those types of ankle braces.

3-Dimensional Knitting
The support helps with muscular support via the 3-dimensional knitting technique, which guarantees a custom fit. It offers knitted support with an integrated silicone insert and high elastic ClimaComfort® fabric so it breathes better. This special 3-way knitting provides light support but most of all compression for lessening edema (swelling) from any number of conditions from sprained ankle to post operative swelling.
Achilles support and pain reduction
The silicone inserts help stabilize the Achilles and the compression provided by the inserts massage and reduce discomfort of the Achilles tendon alleviating conditions such as Achilles tendonitis.
It is more expensive than most you’d pick up at the drug store but the advantages far outweigh the difference in cost. For one, it can be worn longer than most braces.
Other braces
We find this compression brace more effective and comfortable than the AchilloTrain made by Bauerfeind. Normally, Bauerfeind does have superior products but we feel that this one is both less expensive and more comfortable.
For greater stability and rollover prevention, we’d not recommend this brace but rather recommend the Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace Stabilizer, the ASO lace up or ASO Speed Lacer ankle braces.
For those who wish silicone inserts were more around the ankle area as opposed to the Achilles, we’d suggest the LP X-Tremus Pro Athlete Ankle support.
