It was always Mandela's dream to bring the FIFA World Cup to South Africa. On Friday that dream was marked by a tragedy.
Mandela's 13 year old granddaughter was killed in a car wreck and he had to cancel his appearance. The man driving, who has yet to be named, was accused of driving drunk and may also be charged with culpable homicide.

The presence of Mr. Mandela, 91 years old, at S. Africa's first time hosting FIFA was expected to be an emotional highpoint and one of South Africa’s proudest moments.
Even before the accident on Friday, there had been questions about whether his frail health would allow him to attend. Mandela has lead a life of many triumphs but also many tragedies.
