Recently a visitor to SportsMedInfo.net asked us whether the Graston Technique would alleviate tennis elbow. And James A Devine, DC of Devine Chiropractic & Rehab Center in Seattle WA was kind enough to respond to the question since he is an expert in the Graston Technique.

Q: Will the graston technique alleviate tendonitis of the elbow?

A: Yes, Graston absolutely will help alleviate tendonitis of the elbow.

Tendonitis is often times caused by over use, which leads to the formation of scar tissue and adhesions, which are more sensitive to pain and less elastic than uninjured tissue.  By massaging the soft tissues with the Graston tools, these adhesions are smoothed out.

Lubricating lotion is first applied to reduce friction, so the steel instruments can move back and forth over the area of tendonitis with enough pressure to work out the fibers. Most patients will notice improvement of tendonitis within two to five treatments.

For more information on what the Graston Technique is and how it might help you alleviate problems associated with scar tissue that hampers your range of motion and ability to be active in sports and other activities, see our article on The Graston Technique for reducing pain and restoring mobility and ROM for muscles written by an expert in the technique, James Devine, DC

This is an interesting technique I had never heard of. I will find someone in my area to give this a try.
