Sports Med BlogA cold for the Foot
So the feet had been feeling better until I got hit with a bad cold and respiratory infection. Is it possible the effects of a cold can cause feet pain? Seems that way as I have continued wearing the orthotics in all my shoes, inside and outside my house yet my feet started hurting again. As the cold starts to disappear I'm hoping for less pain and the ability to exercise more. Should you exercise when you don't feel well?A few days ago when my cold and cough was still going strong, I decided to give the exersise bike a shot. It bothered me not being able to get outside and walk or ride for a few days so what could be so bad? Well, I learned the hard way. About one minute into pedaling, a major cough attack kicked in and I gave up the pedaling and went back to lying down. Even trying some situps caused trouble (I guess I was giving my insides a workout!). While studies show that consistent exercise can reduce the amount of colds one gets, creating more stress on your sick body by exercising when not feeling well is not the best idea. So for those active folks who feel lethargic when we don't exercise, stick to stretching, walking around your house, throwing the ball to the dog, and learn to relax while you are not feeling well. You'll be back to full speed soon enough and your body will thank you. |
