My Dad brought this to my attention as a lifesaver for all his aches and pains. He's 84. But in researching the product, I found a number of athletes use it. It is a natural anti-inflammatory that relieves arthritis pain in humans, dogs and horses for over 30 years. So while we're just hearing about it on sportsmedinfo.net, it's been around a while.

Arnica is apparently what works well in this homeopathic remedy. Arnica montana is a perennial plant with bright yellow, daisy-like flowers which can only be found in high altitudes. The plant is native to Europe and southern Russia, as well as North America.

The gel, not reviewed in this listing, is also highly regarded as a great topical relief. We're very skeptical here. I hear and get emailed numerous "wonder cures" but rarely do they pan out. But I think if you have swelling and joint pain, this one is worth a shot.

We have no evidence how it might work for rheumatoid arthritis and we would love to hear from others regarding this type of arthritis that is rarely responsive to much.

For the temporary relief of muscular pain, joint pain, sports injuries and bruising.

How does it work?

Traumeel works to control inflammation and pain by stimulating a part of the immune system that, in turn, suppresses the activity of immune-system cells involved in inflammatory processes. In one double-blind trial, Arnica montana was found to be equally effective as the more expensive Diclofenac for accelerating wound healing after foot surgery, but was less effective than the same drug for pain relief.

There have been several scientific studies (8 that we could find) that state its method of action is different from analgesics and steroids and does work for edema (swelling). The biochemistry of action is not fully understood, however. However, these studies are not the typical double blind studies. So while there have been trials, we do have our own evidence that it has a positive effect despite not believing it would at all. Admittedly, we don't post or review products that are considered "bad" or a hoax. We tend not to waste time with those at all but rather bring to light those which actually have helped a lot of people.

Traumeel for Prostate Health?

Oddly enough, a couple of people told me (on the sly) that their prostate problems disappeared when taking it. One even told me that there is no missing a pee stream that is straight and one that is crooked. He flat out told me that when he misses a day, his pee stream crooked and halting and when he takes it, all is well. And this guy is very skeptical. Some have mentioned it as helpful for acne but evidence to support that is exceptionally weak and inconclusive.

I have read some that claim it is nothing more than a placebo. But we have seen , observed and experienced enough evidence to say that there is validity to this natural pain relief.

For this review, we feel it did show promise in four areas in particular: Pain and swelling, joint pain, faster heal for bruising and had a positive effect on prostate health.

Directions

Adults and children above 6 years: 1 tablet sublingually or dissolved completely in mouth 3 times daily or as directed by a physician. Infants and children to 6 years: 1/2 the adult dosage.

Warnings and Contraindications

Do keep in mind that homeopathy, while not known to cause problems, is not regulated and therefore recommended dosages are educated guesses. I know several people who use off-label doses. If you try it, start with a conservative, label recommended dosage.

As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health care professional before using this product. Store tightly closed at room temperature. Protect from light. Keep this and all medicines from the reach of children.
