Kinesiology Taping

Hip Taping: KT Tape for IT Band (ITB) - Hip pain

If you are feeling pain right on the outside of the hip, you could be suffering from IT Band pain. Sometimes pain from the ITB causes knee pain and this one addresses the hip. I used this recently and I knew I had the right taping because mere minutes later, it felt so much better.

Iliotibial band syndrome is due to inflammation of the iliotibial band

This thick band of fibrous tissue runs down the outside of the leg. The iliotibial band begins at the hip and extends to the outer side of the shin bone (tibia) just below the knee joint. The band functions in coordination with several of the thigh muscles to provide stability to the outside of the knee joint. To see just how complex this is, see our article on ITB (IT Band Syndrome).

ITBS happens when there is irritation to this band of fibrous tissue and usually occurs over the outside of the knee joint, at the lateral epicondyle or the end of the femur (thigh) bone. When inflamed, the iliotibial band does not glide easily, and pain associated with movement is the result.

Treatments for ITBS include rest, icing, strengthening exercises, and stretching. The following KT Tape method is an excellent application for ITBS.
