I’m not going to tell you that Kinesio™ Tape won’t work without cutting it with special scissors. I’m not going to tell you that everyone will need $40-$50 scissors to cut the tape. But if you cut a lot of Kinesio Tape, or even a fair amount, they are good to have.

Why do you need special Kinesio Tape scissors?

where to buy kinesio tape

Buy Kinesio Tex Tape

Kinesio Pro Scissors are made from high carbon stainless steel, which keeps the blade razor sharp for years. But sharpness alone, you could actually get from sewing scissors. Which, by the way, run about the same price.

But what these offer above all other kinds of scissors, besides the long-term sharpness, is that these are specially coated with black carbon and with a fluorine resin which enables the blades to cut clean, quick and easy without leaving any residue.

The Kinesio Pro Scissors also have a looped handle and the design of the blades can help to prevent adhesive build up which means the scissors are suitable for cutting adhesive tapes of all kinds incuding kinesio tape. The fact that they don’t leave a residue means the scissors won’t get gluey after a while which dulls the blades. How’s that for an official description? Those of you who use scissors to cut a lot of tape know what I mean.

Before long, you can’t use these scissors for cutting anything else and they are not all that great for cutting tape because they have sticky blades which cut about as precisely as a dull butter knife. Then your tape starts to peel off at the anchor points, decreasing the life of the tape application. And if you do the math, that ends up costing you more in tape in the long run.

Cutting the ends for the best stick and adhesion

When I cut a piece of kinesio tape, I round the ends. If I cut with Kinesio Pro Scissors, the cut is cleaner and more precise, improving the odds that the ends of the tape won’t start to fray as soon and stick better. What I’m referring to is the anchor points of the tape. That is the ends of the tape.

There are simply some applications which rub more than others due to friction of clothing or whatever, and it tends not too last as long if the ends are not clean cut. And for those applications in particular, the scissors extend the life of the tape.

These do make the task easier. I would recommend them if you use a lot of kinesio but particularly if you are a physical therapist or ATC. They will cut all kinds of tape precisely for many years.

I agree with the author. These scissors are worth the extra money and help you cut Kinesiotape efficiently. I have used my scissors for two years; they are still razor sharp and the black carbon and fluorine resin keeps the scissors from getting gummed up by the tape adhesive, so I can focus on taping rather than cleaning my scissors.
