Works for: Muscle pain and sprains, arthritis pain, back, shoulder and neck pain, joint pain, sinus pain

Product Resources

This is a review for Biofreeze pain relief gel. It's temporary but surprisingly long-lasting relief. Many claim they would not fall asleep if it wasn't for this pain relieving cryotherapy gel. Basically, it is an effective analgesic formulated to provide a variety of benefits for therapy, pain relief, exercise/training and overall comfort.

What it relieves

Biofreeze products contain ILEX which is an herbal extract from a South American holly shrub. ILEX is used in various health & wellness formulations. The result is a fast-acting, penetrating, long lasting pain reliever. The product numbs the area and works well with ibuprofin (advil) or ultrasound therapy to offer relief from muscle aches and pain. This is often recommended by physical therapists, athletic trainers and chiropractors.

Biofreeze Gel with ILEX to relieve pain
Not a cure but pain relief. It comes in packets, pump, spray, roll on, squeeze tube.

People use it for:

  • Arthritis pain relief
  • Muscle sprains
  • Back, Shoulder, Neck Pain
  • Knee aches and pains
  • Shoulder pain
  • Joint pain
  • Sore muscles
  • Sinus pain
  • Most sports injuries that are not open sores or breaks

Use it prior to:

  • It works quickly often giving any oral pain relief time to kick in. It often helps you avoid the prescription pain relief meds
  • Massage therapy
  • Rehab session
  • Before or after a workout
  • Trigger point therapy

The Gel comes in many application forms.

Spray or packets? It all depends on what you like. If it's for a sports bag or travel, the packets are nice. But for cost effectiveness the large pump bottle is the best for home use. It does have some interesting little residue balls that are no big deal but some complain about this. It also has no contraindications although, like any topical, you should exercise caution around mouth and eyes, open sores and pregnant women should also be cautious about its use unless there is physician consent. There are no waxes, oils, aloe or petroleum.

This stuff works and it works super fast. It is tolerated by many people and offers relief. It is not to be a substitute for rehab and nursing an injury. Cost effective.

I've use Biofreeze for over ten years in my chiropractic office. Patients love it and it is easy to use. I prefer the spray or the roll-on. The roll-on makes a great stocking stuffer for your favorite athlete!

This stuff works pretty well when I have sore muscles. Granted an ice bath is the best but I'm not always wanting to do that. If it's my legs an ice bath is ok. But when I have shoulder or arm pain that means I have to get in it all at once and I hate that. staple for my gym bag. I like the little packets and the residue is a bit weird but not that bad. Overall, this is a good product and i've used it a while
