Runner Bill's is a Hands-on Running Specialty Store

Bill Lis, founder and owner of Runner Bill's Sports, has outfitted runners and triathletes for more than 13 years. Runner Bill's is a hands-on running specialty store that focuses on outfitting athletes with shoes and apparel that maximizes enjoyment and competitive potential while minimizing injury.

Running Experience

Bill began running at age 30 to lose weight and manage stress. A year later he ran his first road race, the Richmond Half Marathon and finished in 2 hours. A year after that, he ran his first marathon and finished in 4 hours. He has run many marathons and road races since then. His personal best marathon is the 1985 Marine Corps Marathon with a time of 3:11.

Currently Bill runs/walks 2 – 6 miles twice a day, seven days a week, thanks to his ever faithful dog Buddy who sees that he does not miss a day.

Coaching/Training Experience

Bill has successfully coached males and females to achieve their goals at distances from 5K to full marathon. For many years he has helped beginning runners enjoy the benefits of running for fitness. Several people who have completed his programs have become addicted to running and good health and incorporated regular exercise into their daily routine.

Bill believes in varying exercise and gradually increasing the intensity and duration, allowing adequate recovery between workouts. He stresses that increases in distance and duration should be no more than 5 – 10% in any given week and that runners should pay attention to upper body and core strength since it helps runners relax and enjoy the experience.

Bill is a graduate of VCU and supports the community by sponsoring numerous running events each year.
