Kinesio Taping for Achilles.

Good for rehabilitation of a ruptured Achilles or for a preventive. This is easy to do yourself although you should apply it straight and not crooked.Don't stretch the tape much before applying. There are a number of tapings for this. More photos/videos below.

See the Pro do this below in video.

The Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon in the body. It is the tendon that attaches to the heel bone, also called the calcaneus.

The Achilles tendon is what facilitates rising up on your toes, allows you to walk. If you are a ballerina then the Achilles gets an intense workout.

The most common Achilles tendon injuries are:

>>Achilles tendinosis (aka tendonitis)

>> And Achilles tendon rupture.

Achilles tendonitis makes it almost impossible to walk and it's most common in long distance runners. And, left untreated by a doctor, this can result in rupture.

So don't mess around. If you pop an an Achilles tendon (rupture the Achilles), that sucker will snap like a rubber band up into the calf. Think spring loaded pain. No fun whatsoever. And it takes a long time to heal. Achilles tendonosis can lead to a rupture.

Activities that involve sudden stops, starts and repeat jumping increases the risk of achilles tendonitis. This is similar to activities that can also cause an ACL injury.

If you've ruptured an achilles, no amount of kinesio tape will cure it. That would be like trying to cure a heart attack with a band aid.

What tape to use for Achilles Tedonitis

Here are three of the tapings you can use for achilles pain.

You can get Kinesio Tex Tape or Rock Tape for athletes and cut it yourself. Not rocket science.

You can get SpiderTech Achilles, Calf and Arch tape which is pre-cut and pre-engineered kinesiology tape.

Or you can get KT Tapewhich is precut on rolls.

Of course, Achilles pain is something that you should have seen by a doctor.

These tapings can be used for:

>>Ache or pain in the Achilles that is NOT gut wrenching, I-gotta-get-to-the-ER type of pain

>>As a preventive measure if you have a tendency to get tendonitis in the Achilles.

>>If you suspect you have achilles tendonitis (or achilles tendinitis). But this pain should not be ignored and you should see a doctor.

>>Post-op for Achilles healing. It is designed to speed recovery and reduce pain and swelling.

Kinesiology Taping Video Example for Achilles Tendonitis from KT Tape

This one worked for me, a friend of mine on whom I made my guinea pig and an athlete who was taped by his Physical Therapist for the condition.

I tend to use something like this one when it's really painful. If you look at the photo below, you'll see I don't have the single strip going up the back center (I could, though). But when it really hurts, I get additional relief from icing and adding the strip horizontally around the ankle. You'll see I have yet another, the sort of "u" shaped piece covering the ankle bones.
