An ASO ankle brace is an Ankle Stabilizing Orthosis, a fancy term for Orthotic. And Orthotics is the field concerned with the application and manufacture of orthoses, devices which support or correct human function such as weak or ineffective joints/muscles.Put simply, an ASO ankle brace is designed to support the ankle joint in a way in which other ankle braces won't. Is it cool and Comfortable? Not at first. It takes getting used to. You do (or should) wear a sock underneath. But I no longer find it uncomfortable and hardly know it's there. It does work and allows you to continue a sport that you might have had to quit if it did not exist. PTs recommend this for all kinds of sports including running and tennis and it works by preventing your ankle from turning over.I use it without the stays. But I imagine the one with the stays keeps the ankle even more stable if you happen to need maximum ankle support. Stays make putting on a shoe more difficult but they are removable. How to Put on an ASO Brace You Tube Video. This is not an example of great filming or editing by any stretch. But I think you get the idea of how to put on that ASO brace. It's not rocket science but when you pull in out of the package for the first time, there is a feeling of "how does this go on?" See our product reviews page for more sports medicine recommendations from athletes, coaches, orthopedic surgeons, certified instructors and sports enthusiasts. It is an elite list at this point but one that is well researched.
